news about life and dreams
Hi all:
Well, things have been crazy. Husband has worked eighty hour weeks because his assistant is on vacation and they don't have enough managers to cover all the shifts. He offically got promoted so now he is the boss of his own store much to the consternation of some of his employies. I'm happy for him, but Caitlyn and i miss him.

I filled out my FaFSa and I hope i will get some money so I can go to college this august. I haven't regestered yet but I'm sure I'll get my regestration packet soon. I' a little worried though. I'm majoring in music education, and as a totally blind person who can play the piano by reading music if I have the chance to memorize it, but other than that I suck at the piano, wel, I'm nervious. The music braille code is hard, writting it isn't hard, reading it mostly isn't hard except really difficult peaces. Its analyzing music peaces and writting down the answers for a sighted person to understand that is hard. I want to keep music education as my major, but I don't wantto end up in the situation that I was in before where things got really hard and I didn't do so well, for you sighted people, if you have a three or four page peace of music it ccan be eight to ten pages maybe even more, depending on the peace of music. The problem I have with analyzing music is I don't see everything at once like one would if they were looking at the music so I don't see how everything fits together. Then you have to mark where keys change, sequences, and all this other stuff that I won't go into. The point is, I don't want to go into it and then fail again. I made it through a year and a half of theory before I quit because I had an unhelpfull teacher and I was frustrated.
IIf I can't continuing majoring in music ed I will teach something else, but music ed has always been my dream. I only hope something will work out.

Caitlyn is doing well, she is growing more and more each day. she rolled over by herself for the first time yesterday. she hasn't done it again, but maybe she will son.

Ireland is good. We took her with us out yesterday now that my husband has cleaned his car, and she did well. Since only two people read this, or if more do they don't coment, I'll say thinks to the two who do leave coments. I will write soon when something exciting happens. lol

Current Mood: worried

awww she rolled over!! Awww how cute! I remember when Adia first did, she laid there like omg what did I just DO and how can I do it again? Then like two weeks went by before she tried again and the next thing I knew she was all over the place.

I'm happy to hear about your hubby's promotion but I'm sorry he can't spend more time with you. I'll bet he misses you two just as much as you miss him.

As for the college thing, I say you shouldn't give up on your passion. Lord even KNOWS what I'd be doing right now if I gave up. Ha! I'm still not there yet and my challenges only extend to having children taking up most of my time so I can't dedicate as much as I'd like to school.

My theory on college changed after my first few semesters. At first I was like how is it that some classes are so great and some are so awful?? Then I realized it was all about the teachers. I bet you could have an amazing musical education so long as you got the right teachers. Unfortunately with college it's not that easy. You're always stuck with what you get and some of them are such assholes and so unhelpful.

But I still say don't give up if that's your passion. It'll make the end so much more worth it when you get there.

Okay I'll stop preaching now LOL! glad to hear from you though and kiss the baby for me!

Hi: Caitlyn did something for the first time today. She has a toy called a kick and ploay, You lay her in it and it has a fish, a miror, and anotherfish with a button on it that when you push it it plays music, there is a ball by the fet to kick at. She pushed the button forthe first time, it actually startled me when she did it and she did it twice. As for the college thing it isn't learning I have trouble with it is that not many totally blind people have majored in music education and been successfull because most can't read music. I can read most of it, but reading it with your fingers is way different then seeing it with your eyes, as a sighted person you can read ahead and see paterns and with braille you can't the proffesors don't know how to work with someone who can't see, and some, don't want to accomidate me even though they have to or they just don't know how or aren't willing to work with me. It's frustrating. Caitlyn hasn't rolled over again yet, but hopefully she will soon.

I love those little baby toys, although now I send out threats to anyone who wants to get Adia a toy that plays music lol!

And yeah I didn't mean to imply you had trouble with college overall. I was just using it as an example. I read music for violin so I can imagine how much more difficult it must be when you can't see the piece as a whole.

It only compounds the problem when you have some shit teacher who won't help. That really is my biggest problem with college! I mean, if you're going to teach a subject, especially a subject like music, you should be passionate about it. With that passion should come the desire to teach everyone who wants to learn.

As totally lame as I am lol, my passion is history. And granted I doubt there would be this sort of problem in my class, but I know if there was and even if I didn't know how to go about in helping the person, I'd do what I could and make sure I worked together with them to find a way because that's my JOB as a teacher.

People piss me off.

Hi,

When I learned to play piano, I iddn't use Braille music at all. The piano teacher put everything onto tape for me, first the right hand, then the left, then both together. It gave me a really good idea of how the hands were meant to go together and he described any chords in the pieces. :)

I'm os glad Caitlyn is doing so well and Ireland too1 :)

Hugs,
